Located on Vancouver’s downtown waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre offers one of the most beautiful settings in the world. As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, the facility welcomes over one million attendees each year, while generating significant economic activity for the province of British Columbia. The Convention Centre was recognized for the second consecutive time for “Best Convention Centre Service in North America” by Watkins Research Group. Vancouver has consistently been named North America’s top destination for international meetings by the International Congress and Convention Association.
It is a double LEED Platinum certified building that is an iconic landmark on the waterfront of downtown Vancouver – and requires an exceptional Director, Facilities Management to lead a dynamic team in a world class convention centre to even greater heights.

The Vancouver Convention Centre consists of two uniquely designed buildings, the iconic East building and connected West building with a total of 466,500 square feet of pre-function, meeting, exhibition and ballroom space. Upwards of 550 events are staged each year and the facility hosts multiple, simultaneous events as well as large single events with upwards of 16,000 delegates. Built with a sustainable design, the facility features seawater heating and cooling, on-site water treatment, grey and black water recycling systems, and energy conservation strategies including natural lighting and ventilation.

This one-of-a-kind facility needs an equally unique individual to provide a sense of urgency in all aspects of the role, a ‘can-do’ style, the highest level of customer and client service – both internally and externally – and a passion for the events business where no two days are ever similar and who can ensure this cherished asset is always ready for every imaginable event – and some which are not even thought of yet.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Director has a broad scope of accountabilities ranging from leading an engaged 70+ person team of professionals who are committed to best in class work, to embracing the operational components of the sustainable aspects of the physical plant – all within a 24/7/365 facility.
The selected candidate is a multi-faceted operations professional; a leader in sustainable practices; and a person who effectively interacts with the public, clients and partner groups. An operations trailblazer who knows project management, has proven critical thinking abilities and an uncanny knack for creative problem solving. At the end of the day, it is all about teamwork and being able to juggle multiple priorities all at one time. The ideal candidate will bring specific experience in facility operations, ideally from public buildings such as stadiums, arenas, large post-secondary institutions, healthcare facilities or related multiplex conference centres or event facilities where there is quick turnaround involved and timely attention to detail.
