Job Description

The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) is one of the largest Academic Health Science Centres in Canada, with more than 1,100 beds, nearly 12,000 staff, and an annual budget of approximately $1.1 billion. TOH is currently seeking its next Director, Facilities.
Reporting to the Vice President, Planning & Support Services, the Director provides strategic leadership for all administrative and operational activities of the Facilities Management department. He or she is responsible for the oversight of engineering and operations, preventative maintenance/repairs of buildings, infrastructure, and power plant services which are critical to the daily operations of TOH and the provision of high quality patient care. Overseeing six direct reports and an overall team of approximately 150 staff, the Director is accountable for an annual budget of approximately $30 million and physical assets comprising over 4 million square feet of space on three main campuses as well as several smaller satellite sites.
As an ideal candidate, you possess an undergraduate degree in Engineering (or other relevant discipline) combined with a minimum of 10 years of progressive managerial experience, ideally in another large and complex multi-site environment. You bring in-depth knowledge of general facility systems, risk management, the legal issues surrounding property and facility management, and of CSA standards, Fire and Building Codes, TSSA, OH&S, Electrical Code, Ministry of Labour and Health regulations, etc. Highly strategic and forward thinking in approach, you are an outstanding communicator and relationship builder, whose sound judgement, diplomacy and strong negotiation skills have enabled you to proactively and creatively find solutions to challenging facilities management issues. You are highly customer service oriented with a bias to action and continuous improvement mind-set that makes you a skilled transformational leader with an ability to orchestrate complex change processes. Highly adaptable and flexible, you are an empowering and motivating people leader and team player with a proven track record in developing high performance teams.
