Project Manager Building Standards and Technical Services 

Corporate Services – Real Property Asset Management

Contract Full-Time; up to 13 months

Reporting to the Manager of Workplace Planning and Asset Management, the primary focus of the Project Manager, Building Standards and Technical Services would be the implementation of the Space and Equipment Strategy (aka Future Accommodation Strategy and Plan – FASP) within the Create a Modernized Workplace Term of Council Priority. For the term of the contract, project deliverables will include:

  • Integrate and co-ordinate the program with all of its dependent projects, including oversight of the integration and co-ordination of procurement activities;
  • Bring input and feedback from stakeholders to the Project Managers, FASP Advisor, and Program Sponsor;
  • Develop and administer the program plan (including schedule, work breakdown structure, change logs, risk plans, program-level change management plan, etc.);
  • Support and advise the Project Managers in organizing the work of the projects;
  • Regularly review the program metrics and take action as required;
  • Facilitate lessons learned and stakeholder feedback; and,
  • Provide change management support to stakeholders during renovations.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Working and hands on knowledge of the Human Rights Codes, National Building Code, Means, Building Code of Canada, OBC, ASHRAE 62-1989, National Fire Code, Canadian Electrical Code, Safety Code for Elevators CAN/CSA, Day Nurseries Act, Canadian Standards Association Barrier Free Design, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Social Housing Reform Act, and all legislation relevant to designated substances and environmental assessments
  • Review designs for retrofits and new construction
  • Develop change management plans to support stakeholders through transitions
  • Ensure compliance with complex asset management standards, policies and procedures in accordance with legislation, best practices, and trending using a corporate-wide consensus-building approach
  • Effective and extensive communication which involves considerable interpreting, negotiating, and persuading internal and external stakeholders to advance program and Regional goals
  • Lead and guide a diverse team of building science professionals
  • Ensure the successful delivery of assigned projects; measures of successful delivery to include client satisfaction, budgets, or schedules
  • Track work progress and prepare monthly summaries and report progress to management and client representatives

Qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent in Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical or Building Sciences plus a minimum of 5 years related experience preferably in asset management and building assessments
  • Prosci Change Management certification would be an asset
  • In-depth knowledge and practice of building standards and relevant legislation including Ontario Building Code, Fire Code, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, TSSA, ESA, CSA Standards, and the industry standards for steel, concrete, masonry, timber, electrical, and mechanical work
  • Working knowledge of  all Architectural, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical systems,  understanding of their interaction, life cycle and performance indicators
  • Strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills required to influence decisions, to present information to varied audiences and conduct successful negotiations at times under adverse conditions
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare comprehensive reports, develop creative solutions to complex problems and present recommendations
  • Strong project management skills, organizational abilities, time management skills and the ability to work in fast-paced, multi-project environment
  • Ability to lead others and direct other team members activities
  • Team player with strong public relations skills to build partnerships and collaborative relationships
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week/ Monday to Friday
